A Conversation with Joan Metelerkamp – Poet and UCT Alumna – in Boston on June 11th, 2013

Join us for an evening with Joan Metelerkamp, one of South Africa’s leading poets. The program will include a conversation with Ms. Metelerkamp, readings of her poems, and a Q&A. Learn how her early years, which include her education at the University of Cape Town, influenced her life and work. Copies of Ms. Metelerkamp’s book will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served.

Joan Metelerkamp is the author of seven books of poems: Towing the Line (1992), Stone No More (1995), Into the Day Breaking (2000), Floating Islands (2001), Requiem (2003), Carrying the Fire (2005), and Burnt Offering (2009). Her eighth book, Now the World Takes These Breaths, is due out in late 2013 to be published by Modjaji Books. Joan graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1978 with a postgraduate actor’s diploma. She has worked as an actress, a lecturer, an editor of a poetry journal (New Coin 2000-2004), and as a mother, wife and poet. She lives on a family farm in the Southern Cape with her husband.
